How to teach your child to rhyme

If you lot want your child to be a successful reader (and of grade you practise!), it's then important that you know how to teach your child to rhyme.
Rhyming is a super-important skill (run into Why Is Rhyming Important ?) that can exist taught with two of my favorite things: books and games.
How to teach your child to rhyme
Read nursery rhymes – and read them some more!
They are like shooting fish in a barrel to discover and fun to acquire. Get them out, and make them a regular part of your kid'south infancy, toddlerhood, and preschool years.
a.Make a recording of yourself reading plant nursery rhymes and play them in the motorcar. I did this before my oldest could talk, and it was a listening favorite for several years.
b. When your kid knows her nursery rhymes, have her listen equally y'all recite a familiar rhyme with one mistake. And then accept her say "Beep Beep!" or play a rhythm instrument when she hears the wrong word. Allow her supply the right 1.
c.Invest in some cracking nursery rhyme books.
d. Read the rhymes, only don't terminate there. Recite them. Sing them. Handclapping them. Deed them out!

Read rhyming picture books over and over once again.
As your child becomes familiar with the books, leave out the rhyming word and pause. Ask her what comes side by side. You can then identify the rhyming words. "That'due south correct! Mouse rhymes with house." Cheque out my mega-list of rhyming books.
Play rhyming games.
a.Give clues for the same rhyming family.
Here's an instance from the –at family:
This animal says "meow." (cat)

d. Is it a… You starting time and allow your child finish the rhymes.
You: Is it a shirt?
Child: No, it's dirt!
You: Is it a pear?
Child: No, information technology's hair!
e. Say three words to your child. She gives a thumbs upward if the words rhyme. If not, information technology's thumbs down.
f.Make a rhyming chain. Proper noun a word. Accept turns naming a word that rhymes. When y'all run out of words or an wrong word is given, the concatenation is broken. Start a new chain.
